Sectors where we already know the vocabulary

Domain knowledge is not a nice-to-have. It is the difference between a discovery phase that clarifies your problem and one where you spend three weeks explaining your business to consultants.

Sector experience

VOL Group's deepest sector experience is in travel and tourism technology — booking engines, supplier integrations, dynamic packaging and peak-season performance. We also work across financial and professional services, retail and e-commerce, and operations-heavy businesses replacing manual processes with systems.

Sector experience mainly shortens discovery: we arrive understanding the constraints, the integration landscape and the seasonal patterns, rather than learning them at your expense.

Travel & tourism

Our deepest sector. Reservation and booking flows, supplier and channel integrations, dynamic packaging, pricing and availability, content management at scale, and the operational tooling behind reservations teams.

Typical work

  • Booking engines and reservation flows
  • Supplier, GDS and channel-manager integration
  • Dynamic packaging and pricing logic
  • Content platforms and CMS at scale
  • Peak-season performance and capacity planning
  • Payment, deposit and instalment handling

Financial & professional services

Client portals and onboarding workflows where audit trail, permissions and data handling matter as much as the interface. Integration with core systems, document generation and regulated reporting.

Typical work

  • Client and adviser portals
  • Onboarding and KYC workflow
  • Document generation and e-signature
  • Role-based permissions and audit trails
  • Core system and API integration
  • Reporting and reconciliation automation

Retail & e-commerce

Storefronts and the far messier systems behind them — stock synchronisation, order orchestration, fulfilment and returns, and getting the website, EPOS, warehouse and finance systems to agree with each other.

Typical work

  • Headless and traditional e-commerce
  • Stock and catalogue synchronisation
  • Order orchestration and fulfilment
  • Payment gateway and BNPL integration
  • EPOS and warehouse integration
  • Peak-trading performance work

Operations-heavy businesses

Companies running on spreadsheets, email chains and a decade of accumulated workarounds. We replace the workarounds with systems, usually starting with whichever process is costing the most staff time.

Typical work

  • Case, job and project management systems
  • Scheduling and resource allocation
  • Approval and document workflow
  • Field-operative mobile apps with offline sync
  • CRM implementation and integration
  • Management reporting and dashboards

Working across sectors

Do we have to be in one of these sectors?

No. These are where we have the most domain knowledge, which shortens discovery and reduces what you pay us to learn. We work outside them regularly — the engineering practices do not change.

Why is travel technology your strongest area?

Our founder works as a technical lead in UK travel technology day to day — booking platforms, supplier integrations, peak-season performance and live incident response. That is operational experience rather than case-study experience, and it shows in how quickly we understand a travel brief.

Can you work with our sector-specific software?

Usually. We integrate with reservation systems, practice management software, EPOS, warehouse systems and accounting platforms regularly. Where a system has no API we look at database-level integration, file-based exchange or, occasionally, screen automation — and we are upfront about which of those are fragile.

Does your sector look like one of these?

Even if it does not, the problems usually rhyme — integration, manual process, a system nobody wants to touch. Tell us yours.
