London software consultancy

High-end web and mobile app development, from London

VOL Group designs, builds and supports the software businesses run on — bespoke web platforms, native and cross-platform mobile apps, and the cloud infrastructure underneath them. Senior engineers, written scope, and code you own outright.

What we do

VOL Group is a London-based software consultancy. We build bespoke web applications, iOS and Android mobile apps, cloud platforms on Azure and AWS, CRM integrations and data and reporting systems for UK and European organisations.

Typical engagements start with a short paid discovery that produces a written scope, architecture outline and estimate. Delivery runs in two-week sprints with dedicated QA. You own the intellectual property and the source code.

How we work

A delivery process you can hold us to

No black boxes and no "trust us, it's going well". Every stage has an output you can read, click or run.

01

Discovery & scoping

A short, paid engagement. We interview stakeholders, map the current systems, agree what success means and produce a written scope, architecture outline and estimate. You keep it either way.

02

Architecture & design

Data model, integration boundaries, hosting topology, then UI design and prototypes. Decisions get recorded so the next engineer — ours or yours — understands why.

03

Build in two-week sprints

Working software at the end of every sprint, in an environment you can click through. Trunk-based development, peer review on every change, automated tests on the parts that matter.

04

Testing & hardening

Functional, integration and regression testing by dedicated QA, not by the developer who wrote it. Performance profiling, dependency and vulnerability scanning before anything ships.

05

Release & handover

Automated deployment pipelines, rollback path, monitoring and alerting configured. Documentation, runbooks and source control handed to you.

06

Support & iterate

An SLA-backed support agreement, or a clean handover to your team. Most clients keep a monthly change allowance so the product keeps moving.

Why VOL Group

The difference is in what happens after launch

Plenty of agencies can get a v1 out of the door. The question that matters is whether your team can still safely change it eighteen months later. That is what we optimise for.

Senior people on the actual work

You are not sold a principal and handed a junior. The people in your scoping calls are the people writing and reviewing the code.

Written decisions, not tribal knowledge

Architecture decision records, runbooks and handover docs are part of delivery, not an optional extra. It is what makes the system supportable after we leave.

Built to be handed over

Your IP, your repositories, no proprietary lock-in. We would rather you stayed because the work is good than because leaving is painful.

Delivery discipline from enterprise environments

Release management, change control and incident handling practices carried over from regulated and high-traffic environments — applied at a scale that suits you.

Technology

The stack we actually work in

Chosen for longevity and hiring pool, not novelty. If your existing platform is on something else, we will tell you honestly whether we are the right team for it.

Answers

Questions we get asked before signing

If yours is not here, email info@volgroup.co.uk and you will get a straight answer.

What does VOL Group actually do?

We design, build and support custom software: web applications, mobile apps for iOS and Android, cloud infrastructure on Azure and AWS, CRM and systems integration, and data and reporting platforms. We work as the delivery team for organisations that do not have one, and as reinforcement for in-house teams that need senior capacity.

Where are you based, and do you work with clients outside London?

Our office is in Kensington, West London. Most of our clients are UK-based, and we work with organisations across the UK and Europe. Delivery is hybrid — senior engineering and account leadership in London, with a wider engineering bench for build capacity.

How much does a project cost?

It depends entirely on scope, but the honest ranges are: a marketing or brochure site is typically a few thousand pounds; a functional web application starts in the low tens of thousands; a native mobile app with a backend and an admin portal is usually £40,000 upwards. We would rather scope a short paid discovery than quote a number we cannot stand behind. See our breakdown of app development costs in the UK.

What technologies do you work with?

Primarily .NET and ASP.NET Core, C#, TypeScript, React and Next.js on the web; Swift, Kotlin, React Native and Flutter on mobile; SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Azure SQL for data; and Azure or AWS for hosting, with CI/CD through Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. We also work in Salesforce and Zoho for CRM, and Power BI for reporting.

Do you take over projects that another agency started?

Yes, and it is a common request. We start with a paid technical audit — code, infrastructure, dependencies, security posture, deployment process — and give you a written assessment of what is salvageable, what needs rebuilding, and what it will cost either way. You own that document whether or not you continue with us.

Who owns the code and the intellectual property?

You do. IP assignment is in our standard contract, source control is handed over on completion, and we do not build on proprietary frameworks that lock you to us. If you want to move the work in-house or to another supplier later, you can.

What happens after launch?

You choose. Some clients take the code and run it themselves. Most take a support agreement with a defined response SLA covering monitoring, patching, dependency upgrades and a monthly change allowance. See support and maintenance.

Tell us what you are trying to build

A 30-minute call is usually enough for us to tell you whether we are the right fit, roughly what it will cost, and what the risks are. No pitch deck.
